The Provincial Government has issued a public tender for construction of the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence at the Bay St. George Campus of College of the North Atlantic. The tender is for construction of the building envelope.
The centre, officially called the Motive Power Centre of Excellence, will provide students and faculty with a leading edge facility to support increased enrollment, partnerships with industry, and research. The centre will bring together field site operating programs (Heavy Equipment Operator, Commercial Driver, and Mobile Crane Operator programs) and mechanical trades (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Truck Transport Mechanic, Automotive Service Technician and Small Engine Service Technician), a large maintenance garage, carpentry shop, and mobile crane field site with associated infrastructure.
The Provincial Government is investing $9.25 million to build the centre, with the Federal Government providing a matching contribution through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund for a total of $18.5 million.
The The centre will help meet a key commitment in The Way Forward to modernize College of the North Atlantic, enhancing the ability of its campuses to serve as local and regional economic generators and community hubs.
