The weather is frequently poor on Remembrance Day, and this year will be no exception.
November 11 is commemorated every year to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, at 5:45 a.m.
The cessation of hostilities on the Western Front took effect at 11:00 am on November 11, 1918. Although the shelling continued after 11:00 a.m.
Initially, the armistice expired after 36 days and was extended several times.
The Treaty of Versailles was signed the following year.
