Special weather statements issued as next system approaches


Special weather statements are in effect for a good chunk of Newfoundland as the next weather system approaches.


Snow is expected to start today and continue into Tuesday for southwestern Newfoundland and parts of western and central Newfoundland. 20 to 40 cm of snow is expected. Winds will gust between 60 and 90 km/h.


Today through Tuesday night, the northeast coast of Newfoundland from White Bay to Terra Nova will receive about 30 to 50 cm of snow and winds gusting from 60 to 70 km/h.


Across the Clarenville, Bonavista, and northwestern Avalon area, 30 to 50 cm of snow is possible. St. John's and the northeastern Avalon will get 15 to 25 cm, with the bulk falling on Tuesday. Up to 25 mm of rain could also fall over parts of the northern Avalon. Winds will gust between 60 and 80 km/h.
