Significant snow expected for eastern Newfoundland

An area of low pressure will pass south of Newfoundland tonight and Saturday and bring snow to the south coast, the Avalon Peninsula, Clarenville, and the Bonavista Peninsula.

Snow will start tonight and come to an end early on Sunday morning.

The Avalon Peninsula will see the most snow. Snowfall amounts will range from as little as 5 cm to as much as 40 cm.

Snowfall forecast from Friday night to Sunday morning:

  • St. John's 30-40 cm

  • Carbonear 20-25 cm

  • Trepassey 20-25 cm

  • Placentia 10-15 cm

  • Marystown 5-10 cm

  • Clarenville 15-20 cm

Wind gusts to 90 km/h are expected. This will result in blowing snow.

Travel conditions will deteriorate tonight, Saturday and Saturday night.
