Most of Newfoundland continues to be slammed by winter storm

Snow is continuing across most of Newfoundland. At this time we expect snow to continue overnight, Thursday, and into Friday morning.

There have been a few breaks in the snow, but snow continues and will for the next 48 hours or so. At times, there have been periods of ice pellets mixing in, making the heavy snow even heavier.

Some unofficial snowfall amounts range from 20 to 40 cm.

Across the southern Avalon Peninsula, another 15 to 20 cm of snow is expected. The northern Avalon including St. John's could see another 30 cm, similar amounts are expected for the Clarenville to Bonavista to Gander to Bay of Exploits area.

Connaigre will see another 5 cm while another 5 to 10 cm is expected for the Burin Peninsula.

Winds continue to gusts in excess of 80 km/h resulting in whiteout conditions.

Overnight, wave heights of 5 to 7 metres are expected along the coast from Cape Spear to Deadman's Bay.
