Former broadcaster Bob Cole has died. He was 90 years old.

Cole began his career at VOCM before moving to CBC Radio and then CBC Television.

He acted as the play-by-play announcer for Hockey Night in Canada. Cole worked the Toronto Maple Leafs games from 1980 to 2008. Aside from the Leafs broadcasts, he was also a known for his appearences during the Stanley Cup playoffs. He broadcast at least one game in every Stanley Cup Finals from 1980 until 2008.

Premier Andrew Furey said, "On behalf of the Provincial Government, I send my sincere condolences to the family of legendary broadcaster Bob Cole.

The passing of the voice of Hockey Night in Canada is a loss not just for a nation of dedicated hockey fans, but it is especially poignant for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

He was an incredible man with an incredible voice. Hearing him call games played by our heroes allowed us to dream and to realize that we could achieve great heights in any endeavour and on any stage.

While his impact on the world of hockey was immense, he was something extra special for this province."
