Canada recognizes the State of Palestine

Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Canada now recognizes the State of Palestine and offers partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel.

Canada is one of several countries making such a declaration does so as part of a co-ordinated international effort.

This recognition is aligned with the principles of self-determination and human rights reflected in the United Nations Charter, and the consistent policy of Canada for generations.

Recognising the State of Palestine, led by the Palestinian Authority, empowers those who seek peaceful coexistence and the end of Hamas. This in no way legitimises terrorism, nor is it any reward for it.
