RCMP and Wildlife Officers are monitoring a polar bear that was spotted in Wesleyville, a small coastal community located on the Straight Shore of Bonavista Bay, on the northeast coast.

Police are warning people to not interact with the bear.

Unlike brown bears, polar bears are not territorial. Although stereotyped as being voraciously aggressive, they are normally cautious in confrontations, and often choose to escape rather than fight.

Jessica Power at Ocean View photography captured several shots of the polar bear which can be found on the Ocean View Photography facebook page.
