Newfound News is a growing digital news platform delivering fast, reliable, and engaging local coverage across Newfoundland and Labrador. We are looking for a motivated Digital Journalist to join our team and help expand our online presence.
About the Role
This is a hands-on reporting role. You’ll be expected to actively go to scenes, attend events, speak with sources, and gather original content—not just rewrite press releases. If you enjoy being where the news is happening, this role is for you.
This position is freelance, with compensation provided on a per-story basis.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct interviews with witnesses, officials, and community members

Capture photos and/or video from the field

Write and publish original news stories quickly and accurately

Develop local contacts and sources

File updates in real-time as stories develop

Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
-
Currently enrolled in a journalism program or have a diploma in journalism or a related field

Strong writing and storytelling skills

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Comfortable approaching people and asking questions

Knowledge of Canadian Press (CP) style is an asset

Ability to work independently and make quick decisions
Assets (Not Required)

Experience in journalism or media
-
Photography, video, or graphic design skills
-
Social media knowledge (especially in a Canadian news environment)
