On Friday an RCMP officer, Constable Michael Wheeler, was arrested and charged with firearms offences following an investigation overseen by the Serious Incident Response Team Newfoundland and Labrador (SIRT-NL).
The officer was most recently stationed at Holyrood Detachment.
The accused has been charged with Careless Use of a Firearm and Pointing a Firearm. The charges stem from an incident involving Wheeler and an acquaintance at a private residence.
Wheeler has been suspended with pay since February 28 of last year and will continue at this status subject to the outcome of the court and internal processes.
