Rescue effort underway after bridge hit by ship in Baltimore
A search and rescue effort is underway after a bridge in Baltimore was struck by a passing container ship.
The ship hit the bridge which collapsed and crashed into the ocean early Tuesday morning.
While the number of those missing may change, officials say the search is underway for seven people who were on the bridge at the time. Two people were pulled from the water.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge opened in 1977, It spanned 366 metres and was the third-longest span of any continuous truss in the world. It was the second-longest bridge in the Baltimore metropolitan area, after the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
