In an effort to ease demands on emergency departments, the provincial government will issue a Request for Proposals this month for two urgent care centres that will service the northeast Avalon region.
The urgent care centres will help address wait times for non-emergent care in the region.
Urgent care centres help offload increasing demands on emergency departments and provide access for unexpected, non-life-threatening health concerns that require same-day or next-day access, such as sprains and strains, new and worsening non-emergent pain, fever and infections, and less serious childhood illness and injury, cuts, wound or skin conditions.
The department anticipates both centres to open next year.
