RCMP arrest two journalists in BC

The RCMP in British Columbia has arrested two journalists.

During protests at the Wet’suwet’en territory, police swarmed into the area and arrested several people including journalist Amber Bracken reporting for The Narwhal and documentary filmmaker Michael Toledano.

The arrests have drawn strong condemnation from The Canadian Association of Journalists and The Committee to Protect Journalists.

In a statement, the CAJ demanded that police "immediately release photojournalist Amber Bracken and documentarian Michael Toledano with their belongings. The two were illegally arrested by RCMP officers..."

The Committee to Protect Journalists in Washington, D.C. expressed grave concern about the RCMP's arrest and detention.

Both of the individuals were reporting on the construction of a natural gas pipeline in Wet’suwet’en territory.
