Public service employees take strike action

The clock has run out for Public Service Alliance of Canada members and the government to strike a deal.

A deal was not reached Tuesday night and now employees are taking strike action.

Over 100,000 staff have walked off the job and the strike will have an impact on multiple federal government departments including the Canada Revenue Agency.

Employment Insurance payments will continue to be issued to clients, however, there may be some processing delays and increased wait times in call centres.

CRA employees have been working without a contract for more than a year. Chris Aylward, PSAC national president said “Workers can’t wait, and we’re ready to show this government we won’t let workers fall behind.”
