Provincial Election Will be February 13 #nlpoli

It's off to the races!

Premier Andrew Furey announced an election this evening from Confederation Building in St. John's. Furey met with Lieutenant-Governor Judy Foote earlier today.

Election day is February 13.

There are forty seats up for grabs across the province. 21 seats are needed for a majority.

Dwight Ball announced back in February of last year that he would be resigning as Premier. Andrew Furey was elected leader of the Liberal Party on August 3.

Provincial legislation requires that a general election must occur no more than one year following a Premier's resignation.

Furey was formally sworn in as Premier on August 19.

Newfound News will provide continuous election coverage.
