Protests across America as Roe v Wade overturned

There are multiple protests occurring across the United States after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in a 6 to 3 ruling.

Demonstrations are planned or occurring in over 70 cities across the United States. There have been protests in Washington, DC, Austin, TX, and Los Angeles, CA just to name a few.

U.S. President Joe Biden said, "Today, the Supreme Court of the United States expressly took away a constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized... We need to restore the protections of Roe as law of the land. We need to elect officials who will do that."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, "The news coming out of the United States is horrific. My heart goes out to the millions of American women who are now set to lose their legal right to an abortion."

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed dismay at the ruling, "Abortion is a fundamental right for all women. It must be protected. I wish to express my solidarity with the women whose liberties are being undermined by the Supreme Court of the United States."

The ruling will allow individual states to ban abortion. About half of U.S. states are expected to impose a ban.

Roe v Wade has been law since 1973. The ruling legalized abortion nationwide.

Now Justice Clarence Thomas wants to take things further indicating that the court should reconsider previous rulings on the right to contraception, same-sex marriage, and protections for same-sex relationships.
