For the first time since 2009, the Progressive Conservative Party will form the Nova Scotia government.

It will be a majority government. The PC party took 31 seats, just above the required 28 needed to form a majority government.

The Liberal won 17 seats forming the official opposition and the NDP party won six seats. There was one independent elected.

The Liberals were in power in that province since 2013.

Outgoing Premier Iain Rankin said he will continue to lead provincial Liberals.

Tim Houston will become Premier.
