Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has won the by-election in Battle River—Crowfoot in Alberta with 80.4 percent of the vote.

Poilievre received 40,548 votes; his closest opponent was Independent candidate Bonnie Critchley, who received 5,013 votes. The Liberal candidate Darcy Spady received 2,174 votes, and the NDP candidate Katherine Swampy got 1,050 votes.

Former MP Damien Kurek resigned his seat back in April to allow Poilievre to run in the safest Conservative seat in the country after he was defeated in his riding of Carleton, Ontario to Liberal candidate Bruce Fanjoy.

There were a record-breaking 214 candidates on the ballot after the riding was targeted by the Longest Ballot Committee. The number of candidates forced Elections Canada to use write-in ballots instead of standard ballots.
