NL Moving to Step 2 on August 1


Doctor Fitzgerald held a press conference this afternoon to update the COVID-19 situation in the province.


She said that the province will move to Step 2 on August 1. That is 15 days ahead of schedule.


The province's mandatory mask policy will remain in place for the time being but could be removed on August 9.


Under Step 2:

  • There will be no limits at restaurants and lounges but physical distancing remains in place.

  • Fully and partially vaccinated Canadians have no testing or self-isolation requirements. Unvaccinated Canadians tested on day 7, 8 or 9, and self-isolate until receipt of a negative test result.

  • Outdoor gatherings up to 500 people. Indoor gatherings up to 350 people with physical distancing.

  • Dancing will be permitted. Indoor and outdoor sports tournaments permitted with COVID-19 protocols. Recreational and arts facilities follow the limits for formal gatherings.

Doctor Fitzgerald stressed the importance of those who have not been vaccinated to get the shot.
