New senator appointed for NL

Judy White has been appointed to the Canadian Senate.

White, a Mi’kmaw from Flat Bay, is a King’s Counsel lawyer. She served as Director General with Indigenous Services Canada, previously served as an Assistant Deputy Minister with Indigenous Affairs in the provincial government and has the distinction as the first Indigenous woman to chair the province’s Human Rights Commission.

White has also brought attention to the rights and needs of Indigenous peoples.

Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau announced that Judy White would be appointed for this province and Paul Prosper for Nova Scotia.

These new senators were recommended by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments and chosen using a merit-based process open to all Canadians.
