New Partnership to Help Recruit Correctional Officers

Through a partnership between the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Atlantic Police Academy, residents looking to pursue a career in public safety will have an opportunity to receive training at a reduced cost.

In an effort to recruit correctional officers, the government is providing up to $130,000 for 13 confirmed seats for Newfoundland and Labrador residents to obtain a Correctional Officer Certificate at the Atlantic Police Academy in Prince Edward Island.

The Correctional Officer Certificate program provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to work in provincial correctional facilities.

In the program, students will learn how to monitor, supervise and interact with incarcerated offenders and how to ensure the safety and well-being of inmates and colleagues.

The deadline to apply for the program is August 11.

Applicants must meet recruitment requirements, commit to a return in service agreement, and successfully complete all stages of the screening process.

The program begins in January 2024.
