Missing man found deceased in Dean’s Cove Pond

On Sunday evening an 81-year-old man was found deceased after Clarenville RCMP received a report that he had not returned from fishing and that his boat had been found overturned in Dean’s Cove Pond near Hickman’s Harbour.

A life jacket was also found floating in the water under the boat.

The Triple Bay Eagles Ground Search and Rescue and a helicopter out of Gander, from the Atlantic Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, were engaged in the search. An aerial drone was also used, with search activities continuing into late Saturday night.

The search resumed at first light Sunday morning, with additional resources including an underwater drone and the RCMP diver team.

The investigation is continuing and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged.
