Man arrested after downtown robberies


The RNC arrested a 40-year-old male from St. John's on Monday in connection with two robberies that occurred in downtown St. John's on Monday morning.


Shortly after 9:00 a.m. police responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at a business on George Street West. A male suspect had uttered threats inside the business while demanding cash. The suspect fled on foot without obtaining any money.


At approximately 9:15 a.m. the same suspect entered a business a short distance away on Water Street. In this case, the man had uttered threats while demanding cash. The suspect left the business on foot with some cash.


The man was detained without incident and was held in custody to appear in court.
