Man arrested after attempting to disarm a Police Officer

Around 2:00 a.m. the RNC conducted a traffic stop in the west end of St. John’s.

Police issued tickets to the driver for operating an unregistered vehicle and failing to transfer ownership.

The male passenger in the vehicle was known to police and had outstanding warrants in effect for his arrest.

The male exited the vehicle when asked to do so by officers but once outside the vehicle, became combative with officers. The male was eventually brought under control and placed under arrest.

The 26-year-old was charged with resisting arrest, attempting to disarm a Police Officer, public mischief, and breaching a court order.

The male was conveyed to the St. John’s city lockup and is awaiting a morning court appearance.
