Historic Mexico election scarred from assassinations
Voters went to the polls in Mexico on Sunday in a historic election.
The two leading candidates were Claudia Sheinbaum and Xóchitl Gálvez. Both women ran on issues such as national security and the migrants passing through Mexico. There was little talk from either candidate on women's rights, an issue that remains in the country.
The lead-up to the election resulted in several candidates for political office having been assassinated since January. The government has provided security guards to around 560 candidates and election officials.
