Government maintains funding for Status of Women Councils



Provincial Government Provides Funding to Status of Women Councils Status of Women Councils throughout the province.


There are nine locations in the province and over $2.6 million has been allocated in funding.

Locations include Corner Brook, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador City, Port-aux-Basques, Port Saunders, St. John’s and Stephenville.


The regionally-based councils work to advance the status of women based on specific needs. The councils also operate the regional women’s centres.


The Office of Women and Gender Equality allocated funding of $1,200,338 to eight Status of Women Councils. Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation have allocated $1,402,313 to two Status of Women Councils which also offer housing and housing-related supports.
