Gander RCMP called to apartment complex with reports of noxious substance deployed



The RCMP in Gander is investigating an incident that occurred at an apartment complex located on Quimby Place in Gander on December 18 involving the deployment of a noxious substance.


The substince was later identified as bear spray. As part of the investigation, 48-year-old Keith Ledrew was arrested.


On Monday afternoon, police received the report and attended the scene. Officers learned that an altercation had occurred between two groups of individuals inside the building and a noxious substance was discharged.


There were no injuries.


Ledrew was arrested on scene for weapons-related offences.


Subsequent investigation led to the execution of search warrants at Ledrew’s residence in the apartment building and a vehicle.


Several items were located and seized in support of the following criminal charges laid against Ledrew:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

  • Possession of a Weapon While Prohibited

  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.

  • Break and Enter


Ledrew attended court on Tuesday and was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.


The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
