Five people from NL appointed into the Order of Canada


Five people from this province were appointed into the Order of Canada on December 29.


The Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest honours. It recognizes people across all sectors of society who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to Canada.


The Order of Canada Advisory Council recommends appointees to the Governor General of Canada based on nominations submitted by the public.


The new members are Kevin Blackmore, Wayne Chaulk, Douglas Dunsmore, Raymond Johnson, and Conor Maguire.


Kevin Blackmore of Glovertown was appointed for his contributions to Canadian music and comedy, notably as an ambassador of Newfoundland and Labrador’s culture and heritage.


Wayne Chaulk of Charlottetown has been appointed for his contributions to Canadian music and comedy, notably as an ambassador of Newfoundland and Labrador’s culture and heritage.


Douglas Allen from St. John’s was appointed for his leadership as a choral conductor and music educator, and for his significant contributions to prominent provincial and national music organizations.


Raymond Johnson of Carbonear has been appointed for his contributions to Canadian music and comedy, notably as an ambassador of Newfoundland and Labrador’s culture and heritage.


Conor Maguire of St. John’s was appointed for his contributions to nuclear medicine and radiology, and to improving health care for patients in Alberta and in Newfoundland and Labrador.
