FFAW accuses government of failing seasonal workers

The FFAW is accusing the federal government of failing to support seasonal workers this season.

When the price of snow crab fell in April, the FFAW signalled the financial hardships that seasonal workers are facing.

FFAW-Unifor proposed needed changes to the federal employment insurance (EI) system and income supplements for all affected fish harvesters and plant workers.

On November 14, 2023, following months of waiting for a solution, the federal government announced a four week benefit extension for seasonal workers – not including fish harvesters.
