Erin O'Toole loses leadership review

Erin O'Toole has lost a leadership review forcing him to step down as Conservative Leader.

Conservative MPs voted in secret this afternoon to determine the fate of the leader.

There are currently 119 sitting Conservative MPs, O'Toole was required to step down if 50 percent plus one voted in favour.

An interim leader will be appointed immediately.

He has been described as a moderate member of his party.

The Liberal Party won the 2021 federal election while O'Toole won the popular vote, and also won re-election in his home riding of Durham. O'Toole stated at that time that he would stay on as party leader.

O'Toole was elected leader on 24 August 2020.
