Emmanuel Macron re-elected as president of France
Emmanuel Macron has been re-elected as the president of France.
Official results showed Macron beating rival Marine Le Pen, a far-right candidate, with 58.55 percent of the vote to her 41.45 percent, with a turnout of 71.99 percent.
In his victory speech, Macron promised to unite France after a rise in the far-right votes.
Macron was congratulated by several world leaders including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In a statement, Trudeau said he is "Looking forward to continuing our work together on the issues that matter most to people in Canada and France."
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were among those to extend congratulations.
