Dangerous driver flees police near Bishop’s Falls

On Tuesday the RCMP arrested and charged 29-year-old Robert Gunn after he fled in a vehicle and then on foot from police, on the Trans-Canada Highway near Bishop's Falls.

It all started when police observed a car entering the TCH from the Botwood Highway, travelling in an aggressive manner.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver pulled over the shoulder of the highway and as the officer pulled in behind, it pulled back onto the highway and sped away.

The vehicle passed a number of motorists in an unsafe manner while speeding. Police discontinued the chase in the interest of public safety.

A short time later police saw the vehicle on the shoulder of the TCH. Police then observed the suspect fleeing on foot.

Officers apprehended the suspect.

The accused is currently on probation and is suspended from driving. He owes $4000.00 in fines. He was found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia and the vehicle he was operating was uninsured.

He is now facing several charges including flight from police, dangerous driving, breach of probation, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving while suspended, and having cannabis readily available within a vehicle.

He was held to appear in court.
