Contract awarded to begin remediation at new prison

A contract has been awarded to begin remediation at the proposed site of the new adult correctional facility located near the intersection of Harding Road and East White Hills Road in St. John’s.

Remediation will include clearing of land, removal and disposal of soil at a licensed soil recycling facility, as well as the removal, transportation, and disposal of all other materials, such as concrete debris, encountered within the site boundary.

The proposal for a new correctional facility is due later this year and will accommodate 264 medium and high security incarcerated individuals, with 12 beds for community reintegration and will allow for more programming and better mental health services for inmates as well as an improved working environment for staff.
