Charge upgraded against man accused of murder

The second-degree murder charge against Manasse Bennett has been upgraded to first-degree murder.

Bennett is accused of murdering a 50-year-old man in Nain on July 30, 2021.

He is charged with two additional counts of assault causing bodily harm that occurred that same day against two other residents in the community.

The accused was remanded into custody.

Bennett will appear in court on September 1.
