Changes coming to emergency department at the Health Sciences Centre

The provincial government has issued a tender to improve and expand the emergency department at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s.

The project will include the redevelopment of 2,230 square metres of the current space and the construction of a new 2,690 square metre extension.

It will serve not only patients at the Health Sciences Centre but will also include a psychiatric assessment unit for the new adult mental health and addictions hospital.

It will also feature a high acuity-trauma unit, care initiation area, ambulance parking garage, diagnostic imaging area, administration area, and a new entrance and registration area.

Prior to major construction, there will be a temporary ambulance entrance set up and a temporary emergency triage, public waiting, and fast track areas.
