Carbonear train to be scrapped after falling into disrepair

The council of the Town of Carbonear has made a motion to remove the locomotive 803 train that has been in the town since the late 1980s.

Locomotive 803 has fallen into a state of disrepair and is now a safety concern.

The town has not set a date for the removal of the train but determined the cost of repairing was too high of a burden to put on taxpayers.

Not everyone is happy with the decision two local residents, who did not want to be identified, said it was sad that the train was left to decompose and not maintained.

Darrell Steele of Exploring the Newfoundland Railway has launched an online petition to save the train.
