BOISAR Deployed to Extract Injured Hiker in Lark Harbour

On Monday, The Bay of Islands Volunteer Search and Rescue were contacted and dispatched by the RCMP to conduct an extraction of an injured hiker on a steep section of the Southhead Lighthouse Trail in Lark Harbour.

The individual had been injured earlier that afternoon and was reached by members of the York/Lark Harbour Volunteer Fire Department.

A helicopter from Cougar Helicopters was also deployed from St. John’s, but after making several passes, it was determined that a hoist was unsafe given the subject’s location.

BOISAR members were tasked with a low-angle rope rescue followed by a difficult extraction by foot along the Southhead Lighthouse Trail and adjacent ATV routes.
