282 tickets issued over the Thanksgiving weekend

The RNC and RCMP teamed up over the long weekend for Operation Impact.

Between Friday and Monday, police issued 282 tickets.

The main focus was on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk such as impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs or fatigue, as well as aggressive driving, distracted driving and driving without a seat belt.

Police seized nine vehicles and four driver’s licenses were seized.

The majority of the tickets issued over the long weekend were speed-related, with 175 speeding tickets on the Northeast Avalon alone.

Three operators were stopped for travelling over 50 km/h in excess of the speed limit and had their vehicles impounded from the scene.

Other notable findings by the traffic initiatives this past weekend were one impaired driver, five operators without an insurance policy, and five infractions under the Motorized Snow Mobile and ATV Act.
