Andrew Scheer Resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party #CDNpoli

Andrew Scheer will be resigning as the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada as soon as the party can select a new leader.

He was the Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Official Opposition since 2017.

In the 2019 federal election, the Conservatives under Scheer remained the Official Opposition but won the popular vote and gained 22 more seats than in the 2015 election.

Scheer said, "this was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. I have announced my intention to step down as the Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada once a new Leader is elected. I am putting my party first and my family first."

Scheer has been the Member of Parliament for the riding of Regina—Qu'Appelle since 2004.
