Canada's ambassador to U.S. Stepping Down

Canada's ambassador to the United States is stepping down.

David MacNaughton called the decision "bittersweet."

MacNaughton presented his diplomatic papers to US President Barack Obama on March 2, 2016. Canada's deputy ambassador to the United States, Kirsten Hillman, will take over as acting ambassador.

The the Prime Minister's Office said there likely won't be a replacement until after the fall election.
