A North Korean soldier has defected to South Korea across the demilitarized zone (DMZ).
Thermal imaging equipment picked up the soldier near the Imjin River.
South Korean troops took him into custody.
Every year there are hundreds of North Koreans that try to escape to South Korea. Most get there by other means than the DMZ.
The two countries are separated by a fence and the area is covered in landmines and patrolled by soldiers from both North and South Korea.
