Here we are to the second last day.
Tomorrow will be the last day Newfound News will be providing continuous news coverage.
Social media has fundamentally changed the landscape of news consumption.
We no longer turn to newspapers, radio and TV for news because we don’t have to. We have all the news of the world at our fingertips on our computers and smartphones.
The competition to attract viewers to news sites is fierce.
When we set out in May 2016 our goal was to provide quality news to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, putting a special emphasis on those who live in rural areas.
And while that goal has remained the same, acquiring news from rural areas has proven a challenge.
While we receive thousands of page-views per month we can no longer sustain our news model at it stands.
There are two very important things we are missing… news contributors and advertisers.
As of tomorrow we are left with the difficult decision to cease operations.
Truthfully we don't know...
The website will remain operational but will no longer be updated... at least for the short term.
We want to continue to provide a source of news for the province.
Our small team has limited time and resources. We plan on returning in some capacity.
