The Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs have released figures for those who have been denied membership status with the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band.
68,000 Qalipu applicants have been rejected for status. There are also 18,000 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who have been accepted.
Over 100,000 people had applied for status.
The Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band is First Nation as defined by the Indian Act, created by order-in-council in 2011 pursuant to the Agreement for the Recognition of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq Band.
It represents the Qalipu Mi'kmaq of Newfoundland and Labrador. The band does not control any reserve lands.
