Woman released after a theft and arrested for another theft

A woman was released from custody for theft and was arrested for another theft a short time later.

Thirty-seven-year-old Romaine Keefe of Botwood was arrested for thefts at various businesses in Gander.

On November 24 RCMP responded to a report of theft at the Irving in Gander. A description of the vehicle and suspect was provided to police and was located a short time later at Shoppers Drug Mart in Gander. She was arrested as she exited the pharmacy. Stolen property from both businesses was recovered. Keefe was also connected to a theft from the Canadian Tire Store in Gander in September.

Hours after being released from court on November 25 she allegedly committed several other thefts just after her release.

She was brought back before the court and remains in custody.

Later that day police received a report of multiple thefts from the Wal-Mart in Gander. Keefe was identified as being responsible for these thefts. She was located at a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway and was arrested by Lewisporte RCMP.

She was remanded into custody over the weekend, appeared in court on Monday and plead guilty to one count of theft and one count of breach of probation relating to the thefts at Walmart. She was sentenced to a period of incarceration and is being transported to serve her sentence.

The accused will appear in court again in February 2023.
