Telecommunications providers will need to provide mutual assistance during outages
Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne provided an update on his meeting with the CEOs of Rogers and other major telecommunications service providers.
To improve the reliability of networks across Canada, companies will be required to reach agreements on emergency roaming, mutual assistance during outages, and a communication protocol to better inform the public and authorities during telecommunications emergencies.
The latest Rogers outage will be investigated by the CRTC as well.
Many services were impacted by a Rogers outage on Friday. The outage brought down internet, cable, and telephone services, and impacted debit card transactions.
