Some mammograms read on computers below technical standard in Central Health

Last week Central Health became aware of the possibility that some mammograms were being read on computers that did not meet technical standards for the review of mammography images.

At this point, the health authority is performing an audit to determine if mammography images had been read to standard. This audit includes a radiologist who will review all images that were identified.

A sample review determined that out of 329 patients, two patients needed new or updated reports.

The full review includes the images of approximately 3,000 patients who received mammograms between November 1, 2019, and August 19, 2022.

For those patients whose images show possible diagnostic discrepancies, Central Health will establish contact. A toll-free line has been set up for those who have questions at 1-833-960-4571 which will be staffed from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily.
