Several weather alerts in effect as next storm approaches

There are multiple weather alerts in effect across the province.


There are winter storm warnings in effect for:

  • Avalon Peninsula North

  • St. John's and vicinity

  • Bonavista North

  • Bonavista Peninsula

  • Clarenville and vicinity

  • Gander and vicinity

  • Terra Nova


30 to 50 cm of snow is expected, locally higher amounts are possible. Wind gusts to 80 km/h are possible.

 

Winter storm warning for:

  • Avalon Peninsula Southeast

  • Avalon Peninsula Southwest

  • Burin Peninsula


Total snowfall of 20 to 35 cm is possible combined with wind gusts to 80 km/h, except 100 near Cape Race from early Wednesday morning until Thursday evening.


 

There are storm surge warnings for:

  • Avalon Peninsula North

  • St. John's and vicinity

  • Bonavista North

  • Bonavista Peninsula

  • Clarenville and vicinity

  • Terra Nova


Impacts from storm surge are expected, including coastal flooding, beach erosion, minor infrastructure damage, spread of coastal debris, and localized coastal road washouts.


Maximum wave heights of 8 to 10 metres are expected on Wednesday night. Conditions will be the worst near high tide from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Thursday.


 

Winter storm watch for:

  • Bay of Exploits

  • Connaigre

  • Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity

  • Green Bay - White Bay


Total snowfall of 15 to 30 cm spanning several days. Maximum wind gusts to 60 km/h, except 80 along parts of the coast are expected from Wednesday morning until Friday morning.


 

In Labrador, there is a winter storm watch issued for Postville-Makkovik and a blowing snow advisory issued for Hopedale and vicinity.
