RCMP Seizes Large Quantity of Contraband Tobacco
Mounties have arrested a man from La Scie after seizing a large amount of contraband tobacco.
The 37-year-old man faces multiple charges including possession of unstamped tobacco, and under the Provincial Revenue Administration Act for possession of contraband tobacco and under the Criminal Code of Canada for trafficking unstamped tobacco.
Police seized 450 cartons of contraband tobacco in total, which represents a minimum estimated loss of provincial revenue of $50,000 and a street value of $22,500.
The man was arrested on April 7, 2020, after police conducted a traffic stop in La Scie and found him in possession of a quantity of contraband tobacco.
The man was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date.
The investigation is continuing.
