RCMP enforces illegal ATV operation in Codroy Valley #nltraffic
RCMP have ticketed illegal ATV operators in the Codroy Valley area.
On June 6, officers were on patrol on the Trans-Canada Highway and observed several ATVs travelling down the side of the highway. Police conducted a traffic stop to check for required documentation. Two ATVs were found to have no registration or insurance and were seized and impounded.
On June 9, officers observed an ATV driving in the westbound lane along Route 407. A traffic stop was conducted and the operator, a 14-year-old youth, was operating an uninsured ATV without a licence plate attached. The ATV was seized and impounded and the youth was ticketed.
Police are reminding people that ATVs are not permitted to be operated on the roadway, unless in an area where a by-law otherwise permits. A person under the age of 16 years cannot drive an adult-sized ATV. Youth between the ages of 14 and 16 years are permitted to operate an ATV with an engine size that does not exceed 90ccs and must be accompanied by a person over the age of 19 years. Additionally, an ATV must be registered and insured.
