NFL Player Carl Nassib announces he's gay

NFL Player Carl Nassib has released a statement via his Instagram account stating that he is gay, he is the first active NFL player to come out publicly.

Nassib is in the second year of his three-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. He is entering his sixth NFL season.

In the statement, Nassib pledged to donate $100,000 to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.

He received public support from the NFL, Las Vegas Raiders, Penn State, and current and former athletes.

Jerseys and T-shirts with his name were the top sellers among all NFL players at Fanatics, the league's sales partner.
